Shopify data deletion

When a merchant installs Margain on Shopify, Shopify may send mandatory privacy requests for customer data access, customer deletion, and shop deletion. Margain receives those requests securely and processes them as described below. Repeated copies of the same request are handled safely so the same request is not processed more than once.
Customer data request
When Shopify sends a customer data request, Margain receives it, records it, and notifies the merchant so it can be fulfilled. Because customer data in Margain belongs to the merchant's workspace, the merchant is responsible for fulfilling the data access request as the controller of that customer data. Margain does not automatically email a full data package in response to every request.
Customer deletion
When Shopify asks Margain to delete a customer, Margain redacts matching customer records (including contact details and identifying fields), removes related customer notes, and clears customer contact details from matching order records. Margain safely handles repeated deletion requests so the same request is not processed more than once.
Shop deletion
When Shopify asks Margain to delete a shop's data, Margain soft-deletes then hard-deletes commerce data for that connected shop (products, orders, customers, and related inventory rows for that shop), disconnects the Shopify connection, and stops pending syncs for that shop so customer personal data does not remain after the request.
